Rounds 1, 2 and 3 of the 2018 GT Cup championship kicked off at Donington Park on the National circuit on the 21st and 22nd of April. The number 72 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 car enjoyed a successful opening weekend to the campaign racking up a hat-trick of 2nd place finishes in the GTH class in the opening 3 rounds!
On the Saturday Adam Hatfield lead the qualifying charge putting the Vantage GT4 2nd on the grid, and began the first race of the season in the first of the two 25 minute sprint races pushing the Maserati GT4 car all the way to the flag. Chris Murphy then began the 2nd of the 25 minute Sprint race coming home again in a comfortable 2nd place.
Sunday proved another good qualifying session with Adam pushing the Maserati all the way for pole on the GTH class but just coming up short in the end, he would then go on to start the 50 minute endurance race which Chris Murphy would then finish to bring the Aston Martin home in 2nd place once again its third podium of the weekend.
Following the weekends racing Adam had this too say...
"Im very happy with our opening weekend in the GT Cup championship, to come away with three 2nd place finishes in my first race with the team and in the Aston Martin is very positive, qualifying felt very good and so did the race pace in all of my stints so its a very good starting point for the year!
We pushed the Maserati GT4 car all the way and tried our hardest to get the win but just wasn't meant to be this weekend so congratulations to them.
Fantastic job by Chris in his stints and all of the Whitebridge Aston Martin Racing guys over the weekend they all did a mega job, Im very much looking forward to Brands Hatch on the GP Circuit on the 19th and 20th of May"
